Free Fishing Day at Bear Lake

So, Glen and Dayna invited us to go to Bear Canyon Lake for "Free Fish" day. Glen was already up there because of being at a scout camp. Anyway, it ended up being an impromptu family gathering. Amy and her kids came, Dad and his fiance Tink came and Lacey and James' family surprised us and came as well.

It was so beautiful at the lake. We didn't catch any large fish, just minos. But, is was a great time and we were so happy we went.

Girls Camp: June 2-5

I was called to be a Tent Mom over the 3rd Year Girls at camp. It was such an awesome experience! There wasn't any drama and it was a perfect balance of fun and spirituality. My in-laws were All-Stars (once again or, I should say, as ALWAYS) and watched the kids for the whole week. I am so glad I was able to go even though I missed my family a ton!

I was the lone, lucky leader chosen to participate in a Beauty Pageant/Goofy Talent Show. And from this picture you can see what a beauty I was. Yikes! Anyway, I just decided to have fun with it and not be embarrassed or self-conscious. I really had to think outside of myself on this one! But, I'm not going to lie, I rocked the runway and the talent show. I was Bruno, the Talent Queen. (I didn't choose the name!) It left quite the impression and was very fun!

Memorial Day

We went up to Snowflake and met my dad's lady friend, Tink Nichols, and her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. We had a wonderful time! We ate a wonderful pot-luck lunch, played games, took pictures and visited. We immediately loved Tink and her family and felt very comfortable with them.

Tim spent a week in New York pounding out business stuff. He left late on Saturday May 21st and got home on Thursday May 27th. He flew in around 11:30 p.m. and went straight to Golf Land to DJ a graduation party for Mesa High school. He got to bed around 5:30 a.m. Needless to say he was exhausted. I will try to get him to write a post about it his trip.

Kaitlyn played Tee ball these last eight weeks for the Louisville Bats. There were two games a week. She did really good but I think we will try something else. She didn't like standing so much. She needs a sport with a little more action.

We all celebrated Konnor's 4th birthday with much anticipation since he has been saying he is four ever since he turned three.

Konnor is such a wonderful boy! He is smart, cute, funny and loves to snuggle. I am so blessed to be his mom! He told me later, "Mom, I like my birthday! You did good!"

Thanks to everyone else who generously gave him presents to make his day special.

His cake was made out of completely wholesome ingredients and he loved it.

Gila Valley Temple Trip

On May 5th, my sister Amy and I decided to take the kids and go to the Gila Temple open house. I was worried about traveling with the kids all by myself because of the length of the trip, all crammed into one day. But, the kids were nothing short of AMAZING!!! They played really well at my Aunt Kay's house and loved going through the temple. Kaitlyn said she never wanted to leave because it was so beautiful. It was a wonderful experience and I am so glad I decided to go.

I truly have debated whether or not to post about this because it makes me so upset, but here goes.

On Sunday April 25th, my nephew Kade found a baby humming bird. (I'm not sure why I decided we would take care of it rather than Glen and Dayna, but it just happened that way.) We have tried to take care of a couple baby birds in the past and they both died. So I figured it would be the same fate with this bird too, especially since it was so small. So, we just let the kids play with the bird and discussed with them the possibility that Lilly (affectionately named by Kaitlyn) would not make it until morning. We made Lilly a nest in a super cute Easter basket and waited. That night while talking to my brother-in-law, he reminded me that humming birds drink sugar water. So, I made some sugar water, soaked a Q-tip in it and started rubbing it on Lilly's beak. All of the sudden, her tongue starts going a hundred miles an hour, drinking it up. Sweet!! She continued to eat and get stronger over the next three days. Well, she seemed hungry all the time so we decided to give her some more meaty food. Tim cut up some worms and soaked them in sugar water. We would feed them to Lilly with tweezers. She loved them. Well, on Wednesday, we ran out of soaked worms so I went and got some more and cut them into pieces. I figured it would be Ok if I didn't soak the worm so I just fed it straight to Lilly. After she ate it, she started sounding a little funny and I immediately regretted not soaking and softening the worm first. I kept checking on her for the next couple of hours and then left to go get Kaitlyn from school. When Kaitlyn gets home, first thing she does is run to check on Lilly. She starts petting her and then says, "That's ok sweety, just keep sleeping." My heart skipped a beat. Then Kaitlyn says, "Mommy, Lilly is sleeping with her wings open." I knew what had happened at that point. I walked over to Lilly's basket and looked in to see that she had died. Choked to death by that stupid worm I had fed her! I lost it. I was so mad at myself. Kaitlyn and I cried and cried the whole day. I still regret it. So, there you have it. I'm a baby bird killer. It doesn't get any worse than that.

Women's Health Retreat in Young

So, with much thanks to many people for helping out with the kids, I was able to go to Young for three days on a Women's Health Retreat. My sister-in-law Dayna invited me to go and it ended up being one of the greatest things I have ever done for myself. We learned about eating whole foods, the importance of drinking lots of water, getting 30 to 60 minutes of exercise daily and overcoming negative self-talk and doubt. We wrote positive affirmations to repeat to ourselves, prepared our own whole food meals, exercised together and had lots of class time for learning all the good stuff. There was so much it is hard to sum it up. But, I can say, it works for me and I am so, so glad I did it!

Tim is the Activities Committee Chairman for our ward. He recently planned and oversaw our ward's first annual Ward Round Up. He worked so hard and I was so proud of him. The activity included a pig chase, chicken chase, petting zoo (complete with rabbits, goats, lambs, chicks, turtles, and chickens), horse rides, train rides, relay races, goat dress races, foot races, gunny sack races, wheel barrow races, tug of war competitions, an egg toss competition, steer head roping, goat milking and dinner with dessert. We had a lot of help and the whole event was a huge success and super fun.

On Good Friday my sister-in-law Dayna organized an Easter egg hunt and Cookie decorating activity for the kids.

Family Picture - (I had a wear glasses for nearly two weeks straight because of horrible allergies and pink eye. Not fun!)

The guys dropping eggs in various contraptions from the Third Story window. My and Tim's egg was inside of a jar of peanut butter encased in a box full of flour. It weighed like 9 pounds and landed like a brick on the cement below. But, the box received only minimal damaged and the egg was untouched. Other contraptions included airplanes, balloons, and dropping eggs into buckets of cereal.

I volunteered to go to the Phoenix Zoo with Kaitlyn's Kindergarten class. The day started out with a light drizzle of rain but ended up overcast and perfect. The kids were so full of energy and literally ran everywhere! Some of the kids had to be carried out of the zoo because they were so tired at the end. The other parents and I rejoiced that we had conquered and outlasted the Kindergartners. We definitely all go workouts though. It was great fun.

Yet another picture of the kids on Sunday. Kaitlyn lost another tooth. Makenna doesn't like to have her picture taken but loves to look at herself in pictures. It's a major catch 22.

Tim was in a car accident. Another guy pulled a U-turn right into him. The car was deemed totaled by the insurance. My sister Amy is letting us borrow a car until we buy something else.

Many of you know, but some may not, that Tim's mom (Terri) was adopted. Well, after over 50 years, we were all reunited with Donna, Terri's birth mother. It was a wonderful experience! It is so neat to see the similarites between Donna and Terri. Donna is very easy to talk to and has a wonderful personality. And, like every grandma, she spoiled us with treats! We also had a wonderful time meeting Bernie, Donna's partner, who was equally easy to talk to and kind.

Yeah! We are so happy that she is in our lives and we look forward to getting to know her and her family better as time goes on.

Kaitlyn is participating in two pre-school programs right now. She is in a Joy School two days a week with five other children. I work with the other mothers to do this school. We follow the Joy School curriculum.

Kaitlyn also goes to ABC Express pre-school three days a week. She has been learning so much! She comes home each day with a new art project she has done and always works hard on her homework. Kaitlyn hand made all of our decorations for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Kids:

I some how managed to take next to no shots of my kids on Halloween. Anyway, Kaitlyn was a Barbie princess. (Last year she was Cinderella and the year before that, Belle. I see a pattern here.) Konnor was supposed to be a pirate but would not put on the costume because he wanted to be a princess like Kaitlyn. So, in the end, Konnor went as himself. Makenna was an adorable little ballerina. Wish I had a picture of her!

We went to the house of some good friends in our ward for a Halloween carnival they put on every year. Tim was doing the music and lights so I took the kids trick-or-treating to a few houses in that same neighborhood. I was not thinking and put on a pair of high heeled shoes with my outfit that night. Not good for walking. So, I end up ditching the shoes and walking barefoot the entire way. Konnor tires out half way through and I have too carry him in addition to Makenna who has been on my hip the entire time. Just as we are walking back towards the carnival area, Konnor needs to go to the bathroom. (Not the kind you can water a bush with, the other kind.) So, I am running with kids on each hip and have Kaitlyn and two of my little neices in tow as well. It was pretty goofy looking, I'm sure, but we made it!

Tim:

Tim decided to be the "Stock Market" for Halloween. We totally made him looked like he had been through the ringer and had taken some serious hits. When he went to work he kept "falling" down and "crashing" into things, you know, like the stock market has been doing lately. Anyway, since he is in commercial real estate, the stock market and economic situation is always a hot topic at his work. In the end, the ridiculus costume won him 3rd prize and $50 in the company's costume contest. Way to go babe!

Once again Mom Holladay pulled through with planning an absolutely awesome vacation to Rocky Point. It has become an annual thing and she always spoils us while we are there! Everyone was able to come except for dad Holladay and we felt really bad about that.

This is the first year that we have gone in October. In the past we have gone in July or August. I know I loved going in October much more because the weather was so much nicer. Because it wasn't "cherry cobbler" hot, we were able to spend more time outside without getting sun sick and fried.

Missionaries All Around

Tim's brother Sean returned home safely from his mission to Honduras on my birthday September 25th. It was the best birthday present ever! Sean served faithfully as a missionary and has grown and changed in many ways. But, at the same time, he is still the same awesome Sean as before his mission.

Mom and Dad Holladay and Skip had the wonderful opportunity to go to Honduras and be with Sean the last week of his mission. They had lots of fun stories to share.

Also, on Friday when we all got back to Show Low, Skip's mission call had arrived in the mail. We all waited for Kenny and Leslie to arrive from Utah before Skip opened his call. Skip was called to serve in the Charlotte, North Carolina mission. Way to go Skip! It was wonderful to have every one together as we got one missionary home and another got his call to serve.

I would also like to recognize Mom and Dad Holladay for their hard work and super parenting skills. All five of their boys have strong testimonies, are Eagle Scouts and all will have served missions. Three of the five boys are already married and sealed in the Temple and the other two will be too when the time comes. These are the things in life that are truely important.

Salt River Float

So we decided to take the family and float down Salt River again this year. We did it last year around this same time and it was awesome! There were probably 10 other people total besides us on the river last year. We practically had it all to ourselves and we loved it. Well, it was not the same experience this year. Every frat guy and sorority girl plus their crazy friends and relatives were on the river! Wow! It was nuts. I won't go it to detail but we got ears-full and eyes-full of Babylon! Fortunately, everyone besides us got off at point 4 where the buses picked them up. We continued floating to point 5 by ourselves. During this time, I talked with Tim about how I felt like we had just passed through the telestial and terrestrial kingdoms and that now we were the only ones "floating" through to the celestial kingdom. All of us made it through and we were all sealed together (tied together with ropes) and it was beatiful and peaceful.

Jackson Family Reunion - Aug 29th and 30th

As many members of the the Newel Jackson famlily that could attend went to "The Ranch" in Clay Springs to attend a family reunion. We had a wonderful time! Thank you Uncle Dennis and Aunt Iona of all of your hard work in preparing the facilities and taking care of the food, etc. It was wonderful to see all of the family again and see all of the new babies. We had a blast setting off hydrogen rockets, playing kick ball, target shooting, having a slip n' slide and having the family auction to raise money for future reunions.

On July 26th we had our 10 year class reunion. We volunteered to help put it together. It ended up taking a bunch of time to contact everyone, send invitations, plan a family luncheon and adult dinner and make them happen. We had a great time connecting again. 10 years!

Makenna was blessed on July 13th. After the blessing we went out on the grass to take a few pictures. You will notice that the kids are not too excited to be there. In one shot, all three of our kids are screaming and you will notice in the other shot, Kaitlyn's head is being forced to face the camera. She later came around and took some cute shots with her little sister.

Camping On Mt. Graham - Weekend of June 21st

So, the three kids and I traveled with my dad, Dayna and Kade to Thatcher to attend my uncle Derald's (mom's brother-in-law) funeral and go camping on Mt. Graham. We all packed into a borrowed minivan, it was a tight fit! We met Glen in Thatcher as he had gone the day previous to practice singing a special musical number for the funeral. (Tim was unable to come because of a DJ gig he had already committed to.) I was very grateful that I was able to attend the funeral and visit with relatives on my mom's side of the famliy that I don't often get to see. Our Brothers Graduate from ASU

This past week we celebrated as Glen and Bryan both graduated from ASU with their bachelor degrees. We are so proud of both of them for their hard work and sacrifice.

So, because they are so awesome and helpful, Amy and Dave took the kids to stay with them from Friday night until Sunday evening to give Tim and I time to get some things done before the baby comes. The kids had a great time.

Easter 2008

So we celebrated the "worldly" part of Easter on Saturday. Grammi and Pappa Holladay came down. The kids colored hard boiled eggs and loved it. We also had the classic Easter Egg hunt which was a huge success.

Meeting the Edgars

So we met one of Terri's half-brothers and his family for the first time on March 15th. A little history on this topic is that Terri's birth mother contacted her a while back after which Terri discovered she had four half-brothers. Neil Edgar is one of those brothers. Neil, his wife Trisha and there daughter Alona came to Arizona during their spring break. Before heading to Show Low the see Chris and Terri, the Edgars came to Mesa to spend the day with us and Bryan and Jennifer. We all went to the park together and also had dinner together. We all had a wonderful time and we are so happy that we are starting to get to know the family Terri never knew she had.

Bathroom Remodel

We have been living with things undone for quite a while. No handles on our kitchen cabinets, no trim in the kitchen, no knobs on our washer/dryer doors, 11x4 foot hole in our wall, no sink in the downstairs bathroom, and a partially remodeled upstairs bathroom. After 1 1/2 years, we found bathroom vanities at Costco that we liked. So, we have forced ourselves into a remodeling project we weren't expecting. Last Saturday we had torn the upstairs bathroom up, toilet in the shower, holes in the wall, the whole deal. Well, we were also working on the plumbing downstairs as well. We had a bunch of tools and parts in the downstairs bathroom as we worked on it. Kaitlyn had to run over to B and Jenn's house to use the bathroom. Then, that night she went to use it and the flushing handle broke, so they had to open the top to flush it. I fixed it that night while she was asleep. The next day she quietly gets up, goes to the bathroom, then comes running into the living room where we were making breakfast. She exclaimed, "It works, it works!! The toilet really works!" and she ran and gave us both hugs. Cara and I learned to enjoy the simple things in life!

Happy Anniversary

Today is our 7th Anniversary. Seven! Dang, time flies. Yesterday, to celebrate, we went to Morton's Steakhouse in Phoenix while B and Jenn watched the kids. We had a great time. It was honestly the best steak we have ever eaten. It has been a wonderful seven years, the best seven years. We are incredibly happily married and just love our kids.
